Description: The second volume of the History of the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, covering the period from 1884-1939. It follows the highly acclaimed first volume Challenges & Champions. This book tells the story of how the R&A developed into the ruling authority for golf in Britain and then into an international organization, becoming the governing body for golf throughout the world except for the United States and Canada. It also tells the story of the growth of golf in St. Andrews.

This is a beautiful book, printed on high quality paper and with a decorative cloth binding. It is thorough and detailed, nearly 300 pages, and full of pictures, including reproductions of portraits and paintings, equipment, etc. Another quality Grant Books publication, printed in a limited edition of only 1775 copies, this book hand numbered #1331. The first 275 copies were a more deluxe edition offered only to subscribers.

This book is very hard to find.

Condition: Overall, near fine condition. The corners are very lightly bumped. The spine has a slight lean. The dust jacket has no tears or signs of wear...except for a slight wrinkle at the corners, it is in perfect condition. There is no writing anywhere in the book.
